Can you believe that Christmas is only two more weeks away? I can.
The excitement is building around here. Each day we are doing more holiday traditions and finishing preparations.
I have been trying to give up ice cream as much as possible but when I saw the peppermint ice cream at the store I knew I had to give in. "Christmas only comes once a year right"? At least that is my excuse for now.
Here is the infamous Christmas Tree in all it's glory just as I promised. It could look better but of course the kids still touch it a lot.
These adorable Santas are my most recent purchase. I have never been much of a collector but when I saw these I knew I had to start. I also want to start collecting elves. I found these vintage Santas at an antique mall not far from here. I just couldn't resist. It's a good thing they were inexpensive. I also need to send out a huge Thank you to Ashley for making my blog cute since all of my attempts nearly erased everything.
Thank You Ashley!!!

Fancy Smancy
For family Night last night we celebrated our engagement anniversary. Danny and I got engaged on Dec. 10, 1994 in Disneyland at Club 33. Club 33 is a very fancy and private restaurant inside the park that not many people know about. Danny and his family invited me and my family to join them for dinner there. I thought we were celebrating Danny's Dad's birthday until Mickey Mouse showed up with a ring on a silver platter just for me. We were also serenaded with the song "Let me call you sweetheart". I was so surprised. We wanted to start a new tradition with the kids and have a nice candle light dinner just like we had then. We even pulled out the nice wedding china and some Martinelli's. We also showed them the video of our engagement. They were very excited and asked if we could have dinner like that every night. We had a nice evening.

Ashey Tagged Me
I would consider myself a pretty boring person. There isn't a whole lot of anything I can think of to share but I'll try to get to seven even if I have to stretch the truth or share some deep dark secrets.
1. I have a double earlobe on the right side. It is hardly noticeable and kind of looks like an earring ripped all the way through my earlobe only not at gross.
2. I am a grown woman who still likes bubble gum ice cream.
3. I can be really flaky at times. It is not intentional but I just forget things or I wait until the last minute.
4. I hate shopping alone. Well, of course I like going without kids to slow me down but I wish I had shopping buddies. There is nothing more boring than going shopping and not having anyone to get excited with over new purchases.
5. I like history and all things old. I think if I could go back to school again I would major in Archeology or something like that.
6. I also like art. Maybe an art history major would be cool.
7. I love to play games and stay up late. My definition of late has changed. I Think 11 or 12 is pretty late now when compared to 3 or 4am. When I was younger I couldn't think of anything more fun than to stay up with family or friends until early morning playing games, eating junk food, and getting so totally giddy that the strangest things would send me on a giggle spree.
I tag Cori, Keri, Kim, Becky, Robin and Tami

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh! Christmas Tree
Setting up the Christmas Tree has not been picture perfect this year. In fact it has been an adventure that all started about a week ago. As soon as Thanksgiving was over the kids were begging to put up the tree. So when Sunday rolled around and we had nothing to do and got out the tree and told the kids they could decorate after I put the lights on. So I started plugging them in to see if any of them were burnt out and sure enough I only had about 3 strands that worked. I got the lights at Roberts Craft nearly Ten years ago and every year a set would go out and I would have to go out and buy another. They are pretty unique I had never seen anything like them and so I thought it was worth it to go back again this year to replace them again. I told the kids sorry they would have to wait until tomorrow for family night to decorate. Early Monday morning I got the kids off to school and bundled up the little girls to take them out with me to buy more lights. I only had about 1 hour in the morning to get them since the store opens at 10:oo am and I would have to pick up Audrie from Kindergarten at 11:00 and then get the kids home for lunch and naps. Well I had to go to plan B when I learned that Roberts Craft no longer carries lights. So I decided that generic white lights from walmart would do just fine but I would not be able to get out again until after naps and by then it would be time for Paige and Reed to get home from School. This meant I would have to take all 5 kids to walmart that afternoon and as you all know I really don't like to do shopping with all the kids. I always pay for it when I do, but I did promise the kids they could decorate the tree that night so I gave myself a pep talk and was ready to take on the task. Our shopping trip started out just fine until I decided to go to the grocery section and get a few food items. This is where it all fell apart. Everyone was hungry and whining about how they didn't get an after school snack. So they started begging me to buy all kinds of treats. I tried to be patient with them but I told them before we got there that I was not buying them anything and that we would hurry and get home for snacks. I was determined to stick to my guns on this one, but things only got worse. The line was long and Meridee wanted to look at some dolls on an end cap. So I asked Paige to watch her. When I got to the front of the line I called the kids to come and help me put all the items up on the conveyor belt. They all came except for Meridee. Paige didn't know where she was and I was still arguing with kids about buying candy and treats. I told the checker I was missing a kid but he just looked at me and didn't offer to make an announcement or anything. I was extremely frustrated and beginning to loose it. Luckily the lady behind me said she would watch the kids while I took a quick walk to find her. After looking for a few minutes I was getting worried and went back. Finally the checker suggested that he could make an announcement. Finally! Thank You! I went off again for one more quick look and sure enough here she comes. Anyway long story short. I left in tears and kicking myself for bringing all of them when I knew it was a bad idea to begin with. Okay, so back to the tree. We pulled out the lights and I plugged them all in and well, what I thought was white lights were really blue and For my red and white themed tree it just was not going to look good. So I convinced the kids that we could decorate the next day after I exchanged them for white. They all agreed. Thank goodness. The next day I exchanged the lights and started to light the tree. When I was all finished I plugged it in and would you believe that 2 strands right in the middle were not working. I had to undo everything and start over again. I redid the lights and just gave up on the two that were not working. I didn't even return them because who has time for all of this right? I sure don't and I was not going to put the kids off one more time. So the tree is decorated and beautiful and for one whole day I convinced Meridee and Aida that they should not touch the tree only look at it, but that was only one day. Next thing I know Reed comes in screaming MOM!!!!! you have to see this. I could tell by his voice that it was urgent and well this is what I found:No I didn't scream or yell. I think I was just in shock. I simply picked up Meridee and carried her to her room and told her to stay there until I came back to get her. Secretly I was screaming inside and as I cleaned up what I found brought me to tears. Underneath the tree was a very special ornament shattered into a million little pieces. This ornament was given to Danny and I from the staff at Club 33( a secret restaurant in Disneyland where we got engaged). It had the date on it and was so beautiful. We just loved putting that ornament on our tree every year and telling the kids all about it. Well that wasn't the only thing broken. The tree stand snapped off and so we have created a temporary stand for it but I still have not been able to redecorate it since we have been so busy ever since. As soon as I get it decorated again I'll post a picture so you can see the tree in all it's glory.
The Moral of the story is: BUY A PRE-LIT TREE!

Oh Giblets!!!
Well I had a few pictures that I thought I would post from our Thanksgiving weekend but for some reason I can't find them now. That just makes me mad. Anyway we had a fun holiday. Danny's niece Brook and her family stayed here with us. We had a house full but it was a lot of fun. The kids had a great time staying up late and playing with cousins. We had Thanksgiving dinner at Danny's Parent's house and my dad was here by the time we got home. It is really nice having him here with us. He should be here at least a week.
I am officially going on record as saying that I hate after Thanksgiving Sales. I know for many it is a tradition and some even enjoy it but I never have and this year confirms it. I have never gone shopping on the day after sales because I don't like being in the crowd or feeling rushed but this year I did go out later in the day hoping to get a few predetermined items on my list. I did actually get quite a bit of my shopping done in one day but truthfully, I wanted to walk up and down the isles and take my time, making sure that what I was getting for my loved ones would be thoughtful and besides everything was pretty picked over and I honestly don't think that the few dollars we saved are worth it. I also sent Danny out to Shopko at 5 am to get a particular item but I won't name it because Paige reads my blog. He came home and told me that we missed out. An employee told him that they were gone in 5 minutes and that there was fighting over it as well. I am sorry but if that is what goes on during the holiday season then I want not part of it. It really just made me feel sad that people don't get it. The whole purpose of this season gets totally lost in doing what we think is good but really brings out the worst in many of us. Sharing and giving to others is a beautiful thing and symbolizes the greatest gift of all which is of course our Lord and Savior but when we get caught up in the giving of commercial gifts and have to fight to acquire them then it is really just sad.
Anyway back to our fun holiday weekend. After shopping we bundled up the kids and drove to Sandy where we caught the train for a ride into Salt Lake City to see the lights at Temple Square. The kids enjoyed the train ride and seeing the lights. Meridee was especially impressed with the Cristus. She was really sweet about seeing the "Big Jesus" as she put it and Aida who barely talks notice the prints in his hands and said "owie".
Our fun only lasted a short time and everyone was tired and cold so went home pretty quickly. Anyway we had a great weekend with lots of family and great food. It really can't get any better than that. I hope all of you had a fun weekend as well.

Christmas Classics

This is my Favorite Christmas Classic. I'm not sure why but I have always enjoyed the old movies and this one was probably the first one I remember. I loved the pretty ladies and their fancy dresses. I loved to watch them dance and sing. To be honest I wanted to be them. I remember my sister Jill and I learning the words to the "Sisters" number from the movie White Christmas and even making up our own dance routine to the song. I think we probably thought we would perform it for the school talent show or something. We never did but I sure remember watching the movie over and over just to see that particular number so that we could learn to sing it just like them. I know it is pretty silly but it is a Christmas memory I won't forget. I want to know what your favorite Christmas Movie is so leave me a comment.

Shame on Me
Yesterday was Sunday and pretty much over all just a quiet simple day. The kids were actually pretty good during sacrament meeting for a change but we did have one situation right in the middle of sacrament that made me laugh so hard I was crying. I was so embarrassed because I felt I should have been able to control my laughter and be a little more solemn during the sacrament but Reed made a funny and he wasn't even trying. Just after the sacrament prayer I noticed he was laying on the floor and playing with some toys and since we have a no toy rule during sacrament I gave a look of disapproval and held my hand out for him to give me the toys. He very obediently put two little lego pirates in my hand. Just as I was ready put the toys away and sigh relief that I didn't have a tantrum Reed gets up off the floor and pulls a toy cannon out of his right pocket and hands it to me and then another from his left pocket and another from his shirt pocket and another from his back pocket. The toys just kept on coming and just when I thought he was finished he pulled out more like he was a magician pulling a scarf from his sleeve. I am not kidding you he handed me like 15 more little toys that he had hidden in his pockets and when he was finished he turned out all his pockets and sat down. All I could do was keep my hands out for him to put all the toys in and try to stop my uncontrollable laughter. I know it was the worst possible time for my irreverent example but I couldn't help it. So anyway today I guess I am thankful for my sense of humor and even though maybe inappropriate at the time grateful for laughter and all things funny. Don't kids make life fun?

Being Grateful
I have to admit that most of the time I forget to pay attention to what I am thankful for. It's not that I don't recognize that all good things come from Heavenly Father but more that I get so caught up in the worries of my own life that I forget all the good stuff. So being how it is November, and I am already thinking it is Christmas I am going to try and post all of my grateful thoughts and not rush into Christmas without recognizing all that is good. Today I was taking some antibiotics for a really bad UTI that I had this week and it got me thinking how grateful I am for this medicine that after just two doses it completely took away the pain. That one thought led me to more thoughts. It has been ten years since I had a UTI that bad and it has been along time since any of us have been sick enough to have to go to the doctor excluding Meridee's heart surgery. I think it has been at least 2 years since we had Audrie in for pneumonia and that was the last major illness we have experienced. We have had colds and the flu but I have not had to take any one into the doctor in a really long time. I am so grateful for our good health and even though I complain about the bad health insurance I am grateful for it too. I was glad that I could get in to the doctor's office to run the test to see if I needed meds for only $10 instead of the usual $30 copay it would cost me to see the actual doctor and then to my amazement the Rx was only$7 instead of the usual $25. This was such a blessing since we were down to our last $50 until payday. I was hesitant to even go in to the doctor for that reason, but I am so glad I did because I feel great now. I know that I have so much to be grateful for and if I can just stop worrying so much I just might remember all of my blessings a little more often.

Keep Moving Forward
In case you are wondering. I am still running, but it has been extremely difficult to do. With the two weeks I spent away from home and then Danny has been gone for two weeks as well, it has been really hard to get out and run. I just can't seem to make it out consistently. But I will say that I worked my self up to running 6 miles straight about a week ago. We were supposed to try and do 7 this week but I might need another week to get to that. Today I ran 4 but it was the only run I did all week so I didn't want to push it. Anyway, I am still determined to keep trying and am very proud of what I have accomplished so far. I am also very grateful for Kim for continuing to run with me even though I slow her down. She is amazing and doing much better than me because she still gets out even when I can't, and still slows down for me when I join her. Thanks Kim!

Bah Humbug
Okay, can I just say that I am really sick of Halloween and even though it will be over as soon as tomorrow, I am really trying to wish the day away. I want Christmas right now. In planning the witch party so early I feel like I already had my Halloween fun. Every year I say that I am going to keep Halloween simple but every year I get all wrapped up in making costumes and driving myself bonkers with it all. Last year I said that I wasn't going to make any more costumes. I want my kids to have the experience of learning to use what we have and get creative. This year we got pretty close. I am only sewing one costume for Audrie. She really wants to be Ariel. I bought Reed's so he could be Spiderman and the other kids are just using what we already have. Maybe next year will be even more simple because I think I am getting the hang of it. I am ready to pull all the halloween stuff down and get out my Christmas CD's and start doing some fun decorating and shopping. I really am excited for the holidays and look forward to all the warm fuzzies that come along with it. So hopefully I will be the first to tell you all Merry Christmas!

Maybe I spoke too soon
I just finished listening to Elder Dallin H. Oaks talk about simplifying life and choosing what is best not just good. Maybe this will be the first topic for my new blog. Of course he did suggest that we spend too much time on the computer when we should be putting that time into our families and I have to admit that since blogging I spend a lot more time on the computer. So maybe a second blog is not what is needed right now, accept I hope that as a result of it we will generate some ideas to help me and others be better moms. So maybe it won't be so bad, as long as I can keep my addiction under control. ha ha. So puts some thoughts together on that subject. It was a really good talk too. I can't wait to hear it or read it again soon.

Mothers Who Know
General Conference this weekend was truly inspirational and uplifting, as it always is, but I was personally drawn to the talk given by Julie B. Beck the General Relief Society President. It gave me a renewed love for being a mother and emphasized all of the things about this great responsibility that I have always deeply felt and tried to make a priority in my life, but have somehow lost track of in the last couple of years. I even watched conference again during the break on KBYU just so I could here her talk again. I can't wait to get the Conference Address issue of the Ensign so I can read in more detail and remember all her words and even though I can't remember the whole thing, I want to share what I got from it. The first thing I remember from her talk is that as Latter Day Saint Women we value children. I often get pulled into thinking that this work burdensome and too hard to do. The truth is that my work is hard but is should never be burdensome. I recognize that a little attitude adjustment may be in order for me. I need to be reminded everyday that this is a work that I love. The next part of her talk that I can remember is that women are nurturers. She stated that a very big part of nurturing is homemaking. I often relate nurturing to just the attitude of compassion and kindness toward my family but I see now that if I truly have feelings of compassion and kindness for my family that I should want to take care of them and create an environment where they can feel the spirit. Sister Beck talked about Mothers who know and how they learn to do with less. Less media for their families, less consuming of unnecessary goods and less time spent on activities that take us away from our families. These suggestions are all things I have truly felt for along time but I have not been sure how to apply these things in my life on a daily basis. Change can be so hard to do. I am reminded of Hanna who wrote one time about wanting to be more spiritual but that perhaps the reason she didn't pursue it was because she would have to give up things that to her were fun. Well I feel the same way. I worry that if I give all I can to my family then it will suck out all the fun of life and will require some hard work. I know that being the best mom I can be will require some hard work. I am reminded of the scripture Matthew 16: 25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. I have been thinking about this scripture a lot lately. I know that it is true and makes so much sense. Yet I find my self being a little too selfish. I do recognize and believe that women do need time to themselves to recharge and fill their own buckets but I also firmly believe we have such a great responsibility to put our families and the gospel first in our lives. So I had a thought that perhaps I would start another blog where we could share our ideas on these things. We could write about successful Family Home Evening Ideas, creative time savers, and just anything else that applies to being a homemaker. I know we already kind of do this on our personal blogs but my hope is that we will tell others about this blog so that we can get ideas from a much more diverse group of women as well. Maybe this is a silly idea but I sure could use some fresh ideas, because I feel like I have tried everything out there but I look forward to hearing your ideas that are already tried and true but I also hope we will share some of our most creative and new ideas as well. I don't know how long it will take me to set up another blog, but I'll let you know when it is up and running. Until then,
Happy Mothering!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
You won't believe it but we have snow today. I don't think I have ever seen it snow this early. I'll post pictures if I can find my camera and get it working before it all melts away. I just have to get a new camera soon! I am really annoyed that I can't take pictures when I want to. Anyway looks like our weather is changing and I love it. I am really looking forward to the holidays, and todays weather just makes me even more excited. We had a long weekend. The kids had Friday off. We didn't do much because I was working all day trying to get ready for the Daddy Daughter Night. It was a big success and again I wish I had a camera so I could have posted pictures of it. We did a Baseball them which was a big hit for our ward. Did you know that Spanish Fork holds the record for having the most baseball fields in our city limits(or something like that). Baseball is huge around here. You are pretty much and outcast if you don't play ball. I guess that makes our family the misfits. Anyway back to the party. We tried to keep it simple. The girls decorated ball caps for themselves and their dads at a previous activity and we had them sitting out on the tables with a box of cracker jacks and a note that said we think you are an All Star Dad! We served hotdogs, chips, soda, watermelon, and peanuts were on the tables as well. After dinner we simply played a ball game but with a spin. After the dads hit the ball they pushed the girls in wheelbarrows around the bases. The dads couldn't stop talking about how much fun they were having. It really was a lot of fun. We finished the night with ice cream cones. Well now that that is done I can really start getting prepared for the witch's party. This cold weather has put us all in the mood for some hot chocolate and donuts so we are headed out with the kids to go get a treat. SYLYBYE

Running
Hey, I just wanted to brag about my progress in the running department. Kim and I set a goal of being able run a full 3 miles without walking before the end of September. This week we accomplished that goal and so we will be adding another mile. It isn't a very fast run but it is running. Kim can run faster than me and I just hope I am not slowing her down to much. I am doing about a 14 minute mile. It really is fun when you have a good motivating friend to do it with. Anyway that's all for now. I guess I should go and be a mommy now. SYLYBY

Put me in a staight jacket
Life has been pretty crazy the last little while. I'll share the good stuff first. I went to my scrapaway weekend with my girlfriends this last weekend. It was a lot of fun and I got quite a few pages done. As soon as I find a way to put them on here I will. Not to brag but some of them turned out pretty cute. I am paying for the late nights already. I am pretty tired and during a little snooze on the couch today Aida and Meridee got into my make up again. They had foundation all over their new dresses(thank goodness they were just garage sale finds) and I don't think it is going to come out. They are washing now we'll just have to wait and see if the stain remover worked. I was really upset to say the least. I am broke and can't buy more till the next paycheck so I guess everyone will get a good look at my adult acne this week. I know that sounds pretty awful but it gets worse. Meridee is going through a wandering phase. Last Sunday Meridee wandered off and some lady brought her home and then really chastised me for loosing her. I felt really bad but was grateful she found her. Then on Tuesday and Wednesday Meridee wandered off again but got a ride home in a police car. I wouldn't doubt it if child services ends up on my door step now. And this morning when we woke up, we found that everyone was still in bed except for you know who. This really freaked me out because she snuck out while we were all a sleep and who knows how long she had been gone. Danny found her a couple of blocks down the street just out for a walk. We have been keeping everything locked up really well since the first incident and could not figure out how she was doing it but finally realized today that she climbs over the shorter fence on the side of the house. Can you believe this girl. I think I just may go insane over all this. I think I am going to put her on a leash this week. Really, I am serious its either that or handcuff her to me so that she has to stay next to me all the time. Maybe that will teach her.

Girl Stuff
Here are just a few of my thoughts as I had another one of my infamous meltdowns on Sunday. I remember when Danny and I were engaged and I used to say to him " I want to do the girl things". He wishes he had recorded it to play back to me because now I don't want to do the girl things. What are the girl things you ask? You know all the cooking, cleaning, raising of kids, and all that being a wife and mother entails. I used to be so excited to clean my house. In fact at one time I was so fanatical about it that I washed the base boards and mini blinds every week and scrubbed the kitchen floor on my hands and knees because the mop couldn't scrub it as good as I could and I loved to cook and tried new recipes all the time. I even subscribed to cooking magazines and of course I couldn't wait to be a mother. I wanted to live a life surrounded by children all the time. I always wanted to be a school teacher because I loved kids. Elementary Ed. was my major for a long time until I realized that being a mom and going to school wasn't as easy as I thought, so I changed my major to finish more quickly but I also learned that teaching my own kids was enough. I used to take my kids on field trips to museums, parks, story time at the library and I wanted them with me all the time. I even considered Home Schooling them at one time. I would go to great lengths to plan elaborate Family Home Evenings and Date Nights with Danny. I loved doing all of this. I was organized and made lists all the time for planning out my days, but something has changed. What I am about to say may shock you and know that I love my family more than anything but I really don't love doing all the girl stuff anymore. Where did all that passion go? Did I start off too fast and then just fizzle out, or is it a lack of energy, or depression, or did reality finally set in? Perhaps as the kids got older and I had more of them, the more house work I have acquired and it leaves less time for anything else. I am really sick of house work. And I feel bad that my little ones aren't getting the same kind of fun mommy that I was with the older one's. And as long as I am being honest here, I really don't enjoy being around them as much as I used to. I need long breaks away and more of them. I know that just sounds terrible, doesn't it? but when I think of the alternative to go and have a career or anything away from them, that does not appeal to me either. I know I want to be here and I do love them I just need to be inspired again to fuel that passion I once had for everything girly. I am in a big rut. Lori Williams(Alldredge) suggested a book to read. I ordered it but it hasn't arrived yet. I am hoping for some inspiration. It is called Living A Beautiful Life by Alexandra Stoddard. So I'll let you know if it helps change anything in me. I hope so cause life just needs to be a little more enjoyable right now.

HOW MANY MORMONS DOES IT TAKE TO LAY SOD?
Our eyes were bigger than our muscles. We rented a sod cutter on Friday so that we could cut out our dead lawn before we brought home the free sod from North Park. Danny(1) had to work all day so we only got half of it cut and then the grass was so dead that it just crumbled when we tried to move it and so that was becoming a nuisance, but never the less we worked until it was dark that evening. We woke up very early the next morning to go and cut the sod from the park expecting to haul it away by taking the seats out of our cars and laying down tarps but when Danny called me(2) from the park and measured out what we would need and saw people with much less than we needed using multiple huge trailers we knew that we could not do this alone. Danny's dad(3) and brother(4) were already there that morning but it was obvious that we needed more man power. So I called our neighbors the Black's to see if we could use their trailer and if their son would be able to help us for the day. They agreed and I hooked up the trailer and headed for the park. Just as we started loading the strips of sod into the trailer the Black's arrived but not just the one boy we planned on but his dad and brother as well plus their daughter offered to tend the kids that day. They have a large family and they all got involved(5-14). We were relieved to say the least but it was still an all day adventure to haul that sod back to our place. It took5 loads with their big trailer and luckily we saw a friend of ours(Ken 15) down at the park who was helping his neighbor and he saw we needed help and took one load for us in his truck. Once we had all the sod at our house it was time to figure out how we were going to get all the dead grass off the lawn. We borrowed to wheel barrows from neighbors(16,17) but we couldn't fill them very much because of the weight. It was going to take forever to get all that grass out. Our neighbors the Norris'(18,19) down the street were also putting sod in their yard and used a bobcat to scrape their lawn out. So they let us use it for ours too. We spent the rest of the day trying to figure out how to drive that thing and scrape off the grass without digging huge holes in the process or breaking any sprinkler heads(we broke about 8 by the way). Well that took the rest of the day and we had to quit to clean up and make it up to Danny's sister's house for the Hacienda Heights Ward Reunion.
So in the end we found out that it takes about 66 Mormons to Sod a lawn.
I am truly grateful to my Heavenly Father for hearing and answering my prayer and to these 66 Mormons(that includes you too Sarah, I know you wanted to be there) who truly live as they believe and for listening to the spirit that day. It really is amazing what we accomplished together.

Duh
Do you ever do things that you just know you shouldn't? Well I had another one of those moments today. I have them quite often. We are going to a Hacienda Heights Ward Reunion at The Bladh's House tomorrow and I have absolutely nothing nice to wear and even though I know that it is stupid to try and take the kids to the mall when I want to shop for me, I did it anyway. I just don't know when else I can go since we will be doing major yard work the rest of today and tomorrow. So I bribed them this morning and said if they were really good they would get to play in the playground and have a treat when I was finished. Of course they misbehaved as kids often do. They were hanging on the hooks, fighting with each other, screaming, and opening the door and trying to run away as I am undressing, hiding in the clothes racks and not following me when I am ready to walk away. So like a good disciplinarian I told them it was time to go and that we would not be playing or having a treat. Of course the tantrums that flared as I am trying to leave the store were humiliating and the ride home was even worse. They are all home now taking a nap and I think I need one too. I did manage to find what I hope will be a cute outfit, but if I look ridiculous I guess I can always blame it on the kids .

I think I can, I think I can
Well I lost a walking partner this week but I found a new one. The only thing is she is a runner training for a half marathon in St. George at the first of the year. I usually hate to run, but today we walk/ran 3 miles and it actually felt good. She has inspired me and I am joining her. I think this will be good for me. Of course I want to lose weight and so the exercise is what I need to accomplish that goal, but even more than that I think it is a good goal to work towards so that I can have that feeling of accomplishment that I crave and so often don't feel or recognize as a mother. Plus I want to set an example for the kids of what it is like to set a goal and not give up. I am really excited about this but sometimes that excitement can fizzle and knowing me at some point it probably will. So that is why I am posting this for everyone to see. I need to be held accountable and I need some cheerleaders. So please cheer me on and help keep me motivated. So, Kim if you read this now you'll know that I am committed. YAY ME!

What ever?
I don't have a really good title or topic because I am not really sure what to write today. I just felt like writing something. It has been a pretty busy week so far. Audrie had her first day of kindergarten on Tuesday. She was a little shy going in and didn't want me to leave. I was a little surprised. That is really not like her at all. But now she seems to be doing just fine. Monday we went to our neighborhood block party and I made my famous raspberry salad. Everyone loved it. I did all my Visiting Teaching on Tuesday, and went to a baby shower on Wednesday. Today I have to bake bread to take to a stake primary meeting tonight. We don't have any big weekend plans although we should make a plan to do some yard work or finish my playroom under the stairs. Our house projects have been completely abandoned lately and everywhere I look I see unfinished projects. It is starting to get to me. Anyway, Meridee is staying with Grandma Nordstrom this week. Dorothy just called and said she wanted her to come and stay a few days. I won't complain. In fact the house is extremely quiet. Too quiet if you ask me but I have been getting a lot done with out her making messes everywhere. Well everybody has been sick the last week or so except for Paige, Reed and Myself. I hope it stays that way. I really don't want to get sick. There is something going around the neighborhood that is really bad. The school sent home 10 kids that threw up in class on the first day of school. Ever since then everybody has been coming down with it. It is really bizarre how many people are sick right now. You know there is something going around when the church parking lot is empty on Sunday. Well we have been getting some rain this week and the weather is cooling down. The leaves up in the canyon are turning red too. The stores are even putting out holiday decor already. Fall is on its way and I can't wait. It is my favorite time of year. Sorry to bore you with the mundane activities of our lives this week. Maybe I'll think of something more interesting in a couple of days, but until then, SYLYBYE.

Lost
Okay so this weekend was not all that exciting. Although I found something very important. When we got home from the reunion and I was buried up to my eyeballs in laundry, one of the two little girls played in my purse. They blame each other of course, so I don't really know who did it. They pulled out everything and dumped it all over the floor and while I was cleaning it up I realized that my driver's license and temple recommend were missing. We searched and searched amid all the camping gear and laundry that hadn't been folded yet. We didn't find a thing. So for weeks I've been driving around with no license hoping that I didn't get in an accident or pulled over and I really didn't want to go get a new one because the lost one was brand new and I was too cheap to pay another $25 again so soon. The temple recommend didn't worry me so much because it is easy to go get another one, but besides all that they have to be in the house some where. So last weekend I finally found my driver's license. It was actually in my wallet stuck inside a really tight side pocket that I never use. I was so relieved. Now if I could just find my recommend. Well, the very next day what do you think happened? The girls got into my purse again and the license and my cell phone is missing and just as I am ready to head out to do my grocery shopping. Danny and I searched the whole house and could not find them, but in our searching guess what we found? Yes, it was my recommend stuck in between the couch cushions that I had looked in twice the week before. I was in a pretty big hurry to finish my shopping and get back home because I needed to be up to my sister in law's house to help her set up for her daughter's wedding reception in just a couple of hours. So I was pretty mad that it was taking so long to find them and so I decided to just go shopping anyway. So again for the last week I have been cautiously driving around town with out my licence. This weekend we decided to go out and finally clean out the garage and get organized. While going back and forth to the outside garbage can we came across my license on the ground near the garbage cans and we found my cell too. I can only say I am thankful we found it before it ended up in the garbage and for the $25 it saved us and for the first time in a month I feel complete again.

I Chose This? I Choose This.
These pictures reminded me of a resolution I made years ago when I came across a mother who scrap booked a picture of her toddler in the messiest goop I had ever seen. While admiring her craftiness it occurred to me that she couldn't possibly stop to take a picture if she lost her cool, punished the child and then cleaned up the mess in a huff. Instead she obviously had to go get the camera and take the time to get the perfect picture of the lovely mess. I remembered thinking that it takes a really patient mom to do that. So through the years I have tried to be that patient mom. I don't always stop and take pictures. Sometimes I just loose it, but I love these kinds of pictures they help me realize that even though life gets rough and makes me wonder why I chose this, that there isn't anything else I'd rather be doing.
I did choose this and everyday I continue to choose this life!

Thank goodness for public schools
The house is actually somewhat quiet, except for Audrie's tantrum at the moment. She doesn't officially begin Kindergarten until next week but she wanted to go so badly that we used today as a dress rehearsal. She got all ready to go this morning and of course we took a picture. She did get to go to the school this morning and take her assessment test. She is so excited. As much as I love sending kids to school, sending a kindergartner is a little bitter sweet. I am glad to see her go but of course I do have a little bit of worry that maybe I didn't prepare her well enough to go out into the big big world. I wonder if this is just a glimpse of what it will be like when I send her off to college.
Reed and Paige looked adorable in their new school outfits. They have grown up so much and I can't believe how smart they are getting. Not to mention the very grownup attitudes and personalities that are emerging. They really are fun. I only wish my camera worked so I could get a better picture(I need a new one badly, Ashley I know you research these things so let me know if you find a good deal) They really looked sharp.
Today I am thankful for sick babies(I think) and a husband that doesn't have to leave early in the morning. Aida started throwing up at 5 this morning and did it all morning long. So I was trying to help her and get kids ready for school. Danny was a big help but Aida sure slowed us down. She gives me an excuse for having the kids start their first day of school a little late instead of the real reason(Paige wanted her hair curled and I took too long). It also means I get to sit and hold her all day instead of cleaning the house.
I just love her sad sweet face.

Balance
Okay so my last post was not very uplifting but I have had a tough week trying to get some order and routine back into our lives so that we will be ready for school to start and I was feeling pretty overwhelmed and I let that feeling take over. I pretty much went crazy on my family the last couple of days. I'd like to blame it on something like PMS but I was just overwhelmed. Anyway, everyone's comments were great and got me thinking. I am always looking for the balance in life. For example, perfectly reverent zombe like children in church or kids who's parents let them be themselves so much that they don't learn to sit still when appropriate. Neither one is okay so I am always looking for the middle ground. I never seem to find it though because everyone has an opinion about what is right and I actually listen to them. I think Shanda's comment works for me. I have to stop listening to everyone else. I already know this but sometimes it is hard to do when you feel like others are judging you. But the part I really liked was that there will always be someone skinnier but there will also be someone fatter too. There will always be someone smarter and dumber, worse parents and better parents than me. The balance is in between all of those statements. The balance is me. I am the balance in the middle of all of that. What I am is okay. So, really nothing too profound I just need to remember to be okay with myself. Which can be hard to do sometimes but I think If I can learn not to run faster than I have strength I will be able to remember it easier. I think I need to reread "Remembering Wholeness" because it obviously hasn't quite sunk in yet.

There is no such thing as SuperMom??
I believe in SuperMom. Do you?
She has it all together! She wakes up at the crack of dawn to exercise and train for that marathon she will be running in a few weeks. She is dressed and ready to go before her family wakes up with a healthy breakfast (not just cold sugar cereal) on the table. Her kids arrive to school on time, in perfectly matched outfits that are clean and pressed. Their hair is brushed and the girls even have ribbons in their perfectly parted ponytails. She wouldn't dream of taking her kids to school
in her pajamas. She is that beautiful woman who always dresses cute and has perfect hair and make-up and after giving birth to 8 kids still turns heads in her size 6 jeans. She serves in the PTA and is a room mom and she volunteers each week in her kids classes. She is the Relief Society President and fulfills her calling perfectly with ease. She doesn't just fulfill her calling but goes the extra mile in everything she does. She also goes to the Temple once a week and wouldn't miss a day of personal prayers and scripture study. She plans effective FHE Lessons and she has trained her kids to sit and listen. Her family kneels to pray everyday and studies the scriptures as well. She takes her family to church every Sunday and takes the commandment to "Keep the Sabbath Day Holy" very seriously. She cleans her house, washes the clothes, shines the shoes, on Saturday and on Sunday she is not only on time but is sitting on the front row 10 minutes early. Her children are perfectly behaved and reverent during church because she is the perfect disciplinarian. She must have x-ray vision. She never yells at her kids. She teaches them in a Christ like manner. She is kind but firm and always consistent. She listens to the spirit for inspiration on how to raise her kids.
I know you are all thinking this woman couldn't possibly exist.
How does she do it all? But guess what this is not all she can do.
Come on this is SuperMom we are talking about.
She is faster than a speeding bullet. Her house is never dirty or messy because she has also taught her kids to help around the house. They can clean the toilet, mow the lawn, do the dishes, and any other chore they are asked to help with and her kids won't complain about it because she taught them the value of work and that it can be fun. She is a chauffeur and takes her kids to all their various practices and lessons. She wouldn't dream of missing a recital or ball game. She may even coach her kids teams from time to time. At the end of the day she still gets a healthy Dinner on the Table where good manners are expected and her kids clear their plates and of course they have meaningful conversations around the dinner table. After Dinner she helps her kids with their homework and of course she can help her high school kids with difficult math like calculus because she is educated and went to college and did exceptionally well. Then she makes sure all the kids are bathed and ready for bed after which she sings them all lullabies with her beautiful singing voice and remembers to tell each one that she loves them. She even takes time to listen to them talk about their day. And helps the little ones read personal scriptures and say personal prayers.
Okay, so this is starting to sound ridiculous but I'm not kidding she does all this and I am still not finished.
Dr. appointments, remembers to give vitamins, Gives kids hair cuts to save money, doesn't complain when husband has church meetings, takes dinner to a neighbor, keeps in touch with old friends, babysits someone else's kids so they can go out, plays the piano, has dates with her husband, mends clothes, recycles everything, keeps a journal for herself and her young children, does genealogy, paints for her own hobby, kisses boo boos, plants flowers, keeps a vegetable garden, food storage, clips coupons, quick, witty, always smiles, never gossips, volunteers in her community, Leaps buildings in one single bound.
I could go on and on.
I am telling the truth. She does exist! Really I am not kidding!
She exists in my mind. Where did she come from? A composition of every woman I have ever admired all put into one. She is the one I use as a standard to measure my own success. She exists in my own personal comic book and that is exactly what it is a comic. It is almost comical that I have made her real even though I know better. I know she doesn't really exist. Every woman no matter how perfect they appear to be, has problems. I know this but why do I keep setting myself up for failure by expecting too much. This must be a lesson I need to learn because I seem to keep on repeating it. Every time I try to do it all, I fall and get discouraged to the point of deep depression and anxiety. I do it over and over again.
Aghhhhh! I just get so frustrated with myself.
Where is the Balance?

Is It Over Yet?
I often hear other moms talk about how they love the summer because they get more time to influence their kids and they often wish it would never end because they want more time to spend with them. Well call me a bad mom if you want but I am actually looking forward to school starting. We had a full summer and I am ready for a change in our routine. Oh I forgot! What routine? We have been pretty lazy lately. The kids go to bed late but sleep in and then they spend the day just being kids. Riding their bikes through the neighborhood, playing with friends all day. Over all just having fun. The Girls participated in a two week art festival where they took dance classes and learned a new routine to perform for the community. We missed the performance to go on our trip with Grandpa but the girls didn't mind. They were very excited to go on a trip. We toured the entire state of Idaho plus some side trips into Montana and Washington with Grandpa Passey, Aunt Jill, Aunt Robin, and Uncle Dave. It was ten days of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen and a road trip we will never forget. The kids held up pretty well. I only wish we could say the same for Grandpa, Aunt Jill, Aunt Robin and Uncle Dave. It may not have been a relaxing vaction for them but we do appreciate them letting us tag along and for all their help with the kids. After this trip we spent a lot of time swimming. The kids all took swimming lessons and we went to the pool with our good friends the Lubeans as often as possible. I also spent a lot of time helping to plan the Nordstrom Family Reunion. Danny and I were on the committee so we stayed busy putting all of our plans into action and organizing all of our camping gear and getting ready to go. We just got back last night from the reunion at Jackson Meadows in the Tahoe area and after a week of camping we are happy to be home were there is running water, showers, and flush toilets. We had a great time but are ready to clean up all the dirt and get ready to go back to school. And Yes! I will miss my kids a little but I look forward to the routine and watching them grow and learn everyday.
